Earlier this week, staff at the Beaumont VA Clinic evacuated veterans and employees as the building's roof sagged and collapsed; the clinic remains closed for repairs and mobile medical units (operational within a week) will provide ongoing care.
The Texas Workforce Commission reported that Beaumont-Port Arthur’s jobless rate increased to 5.4% in April, making it the fourth highest in the state. The agency also announced that Texas added 17,800 nonfarm jobs in May and 98,000 over the year.
