The YMBL South Texas State Fair will kick off on March 27th at Doggett Ford Park—Alan Cockerham from Carnival Americana said rides will begin rolling out this weekend.

On Friday night, the Rainbow Bridge closed for an 18-month maintenance project, and drivers were directed to use the Veterans Memorial Bridge where two lanes remained open in each direction — TxDOT engineers lowered the speed limit from 65 to 55 to improve safety.

First responders attended to a house fire on the 8900 block of Central Boulevard in Central Gardens shortly before 1 p.m. Friday when several propane tanks exploded outside the burning home—firefighters from Nederland and Water District 10 worked to control the flames while the sheriff’s office investigated and no injuries were reported.
