- ➤ Beaumont Animal Care is asking residents to provide freezing fosters as temperatures are set to drop Sunday; the shelter’s indoor kennels are full and outdoor space is nearly at capacity (located at 1884 Pine Street). Fostering will continue through Saturday with dogs returning when warmer on Wednesday. KFDM
- ➤ Coats and Kettle campaign organizes donations of 275-300 coats and 175-200 blankets to help people in need during this weekend's cold snap in the area — the effort, led by Cintas and Munro's Safety Apparel in partnership with the Salvation Army and KFDM, invites more contributions. KFDM

- ➤ Entergy Texas is ramping up winter storm preparations as freezing temperatures, ice, wind and rain are forecast to impact Southeast Texas starting Friday. The utility has protected equipment, insulated piping and inspected substations (and transmission lines) to help prevent outages. KFDM

- ➤ A TEA official explained how BISD will be taken over at West Brook High School today due to five years of low ratings, and new leadership will be set in place for at least two years — community members called for more state support. FOX 4 Beaumont
- ➤ A TEA official met with community members at West Brook High School today to explain the state takeover plan for BISD, noting that repeated low ratings required legal action and that TEA will soon appoint a new superintendent and board (the takeover will last at least two years). KFDM
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ As freezing weather moves in, Beaumont experts warn residents to protect people (and) pets, pipes, and plants by wrapping outdoor pipes and keeping animals warm. Local plumber Henry LaRocca cautions that acting now may prevent costly repairs as supplies become scarce. 12 News Now
- ➤ The TCEQ charged Beaumont’s methanol facility and rubber plant with 18 environmental violations during a Jan. 14 meeting, fining them a total of $852,137 (both Natgasoline and Chickadee Purchaser denied the allegations). Beaumont Enterprise

- ➤ The Beaumont EOC is preparing for an arctic blast starting Saturday, Jan. 24, that will bring subfreezing temperatures, freezing rain, and dangerous wind chills.
