  • Joseph Frank Domino, former Entergy CEO, died Monday, Jan. 19 in Beaumont at age 77. Funerals are scheduled later this month—a gathering at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive on Friday, Jan. 30 and a Mass at St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica on Saturday, Jan. 31.  12 News Now
  • City officials led by Mayor Roy West arranged extra shelter supplies for homeless residents as frigid temperatures drop into the 20s — Henry's Place will serve as an overflow shelter and heated mobile transit is set to run Sunday to help transport those in need.  FOX 4 Beaumont

  • Beaumont Food District opened on Jan. 17 at 4438 Dowlen Road, offering dishes from vendors including Nguyen’s Broke Boyz (Manny’s Catering and Divine Flavor). A soft opening had drawn favorable reviews from local food critics.  Beaumont Enterprise
  • Entergy Texas has ramped up preparations across Southeast Texas to protect power infrastructure, including power plants and insulation of equipment, with teams monitoring conditions ahead of expected freezing weather today. ECONOMY NEWS

  • Tuesday morning, county officials reviewed a study showing Doggett Ford Park supported 263 full-time jobs and generated over $20 million in countywide sales, with nearly 46,000 visitors from outside boosting hotel revenue.   • Officials warn that an upcoming freeze in Southeast Texas will disrupt crawfish harvests and cause prices to rise as residents are urged today to protect pipes and plants by using frost cloth (or similar covers) to help safeguard agriculture.  12 News Now

  • TxDOT began pre-treating roads and bridges in Beaumont ahead of a winter storm expected this weekend. Drivers are advised to avoid travel if possible and slow down for work crews while checking conditions before heading out.  Beaumont Enterprise
  • Beaumont ISD board members on Friday said they would not appeal the TEA takeover decision after the state confirmed its oversight. The TEA named Andrew Kim as conservator and extended the Board of Managers application deadline to mid-February, with the takeover expected between April and June.  FOX 4 Beaumont

HEALTH NEWS

  • Drivers in Southeast Texas are urged to prepare for winter weather as auto care professionals stress that vehicles need fresh antifreeze coolant, proper tire pressure, and full gas tanks to avoid costly damage.
