- ➤ The Nederland community is supporting Council member Jeff Ortiz (diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer) at a fundraiser today at Revive Church on Nederland Ave. Organizers plan food, a silent auction, and raffle activities to help cover his treatment costs. 12 News Now
- ➤ The Neches River Festival is hosting its annual Capes and Crowns 5K and Mary Grace Baker one-mile run today in downtown to raise funds for student scholarships and honor Baker’s legacy. The event welcomes all ages and offers family-friendly activities (face painting, food, music). 12 News Now
- ➤ Frank Johnstone's remains, identified by DNA testing in Feb. 2025 and recovered from WWII, arrived in Beaumont this morning escorted by Patriot Guard Riders and police. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, Feb. 26 at Forest Lawn (his great nephew is present to welcome him home). KFDM
- ➤ Hargie Faye Savoy, a longtime civil rights champion in Port Arthur—who founded the Martin Luther King Jr. Support Group of Southeast Texas in 1986—died Thursday at her home at 96. Her legacy lives on through family including daughter Terry and grandson Representative Christian Manuel. KFDM

- ➤ Teachers and students from Port Neches-Groves ISD received STEAM grants at the annual Fish-O-Rama tournament in Port Neches Park, an event that awarded up to $25k to boost classroom learning and conservation (support provided by local partners). FOX 4 Beaumont
- ➤ Beaumont ISD reported that 2025-2026 school attendance dropped to 91.2 percent during Thursday night's board meeting — with some campuses at low 80s — raising concerns about state aid and learning opportunities.
