- ➤ Over 4,500 Beaumont residents lost power early Monday, Feb. 23 along a stretch from Stonetown Rd in Voth to roads near Dowlen Rd + Entergy estimated service would be restored by 5 p.m. with no cause yet reported. KFDM
- ➤ Spindletop Rotary Club is hosting a Celebrity Roast of Sheriff Zena Stephens on Tuesday, Mar. 31 at MCM Elegante’ Hotel from 7-9 p.m. Proceeds (benefiting the Southeast Texas Food Bank and Rotary Club) will support the organizations. KFDM

- ➤ A controlled burn turned dangerous Monday when shifting winds spread a fire across 750 acres near Hamshire Road off Interstate 10 — crews used mutual aid and air support from Winnie to contain 70% by 5:15 p.m. FOX 4 Beaumont

- ➤ The Swing Out Civic Club—hosting swing dance classes and community events during Black History Month in Beaumont—honors its African American roots from Harlem. The club reinvests revenue in local outreach while preserving a vibrant cultural tradition. 12 News Now
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Texas Education Freedom Accounts program now accepts school voucher applications for the upcoming school year and has received nearly 124,000 applications so far, with priority for students with disabilities and low and middle income families (applications close on March 17). KFDM
- ➤ About 60 applicants attended a two-day training session over the weekend at Beaumont ISD, where the Texas Education Agency taught leadership skills under state control — former principal Dr. Belinda George said the session shifted her mindset from regret to opportunity. 12 News Now
- ➤ The Texas Education Freedom Accounts program now opens for school voucher applications for the 2026-27 school year, with over 123,000 students having applied by Sunday and a March 17 deadline for more families to register, with priority given to students with disabilities (and to families with low or middle incomes).
