ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Early Sunday morning at a Shell Gas Station on Eastex Freeway, Beaumont Police responded at about 1:47 a.m. after a white Mercedes was involved in an accidental shooting that injured a woman's lower leg when a rifle discharged—officers recovered three rifles and multiple spent shell casings.  KFDM

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Zummo Meat Company—family-run for over 110 years—remains a local pillar as it makes more than 20 types of sausage and 10 kinds of boudin available in grocery stores in 40 states while supporting the Beaumont community. The company moved from running a slaughterhouse to focusing on processed meats in the 1980s because it saved on labor and achieved higher profits.  Beaumont Enterprise

CULTURE NEWS

  • Family and friends gathered at the Ben Rogers Visitors Center Saturday in Beaumont to honor the legacy of Kate Walker, a Port Arthur woman who served in the 6888 Battalion during World War II at a ceremony featuring a state proclamation + flag presentation led by Navy Commander Robert Dunn. Her legacy will be further recognized with an induction into the Museum of the Gulf Coast in June.  KFDM

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A wildfire reported around 1:30 p.m. today burned at least 300 acres at McFaddin National Wildlife Refuge south of Highway 73 and north of the Intracoastal Waterway + the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is working to contain the blaze while a few nearby homes owned by the agency are at risk.  KFDM
