COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Girls’ Haven (nonprofit) will host its annual golf tournament on Monday, May 4 at Beaumont Country Club to support its care for girls 6 to 18. Teams of four can join for $1,000 as practice starts at 9 a.m., with lunch at 11:30 a.m. and tee time at 1 p.m.  KFDM
  • The YMBL South Texas State Fair and Rodeo returns on March 26 for a 10-day run with new rides, food, livestock shows and free admission for early arrivals on opening night at the fairgrounds. Organizers also plan extra security + community support as proceeds benefit local nonprofits.  12 News Now
  • During spring break, about 100 college students from Oklahoma worked on a home repair project on Doucette Street in Beaumont with Nehemiah's Vision (a nonprofit focused on rebuilding disaster-damaged homes), and the group plans to complete 11 projects to support at risk youth.  KFDM

CULTURE NEWS

  • Yesterday, St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica hosted St. Joseph’s Day Feast in Beaumont that blended faith and charity. A procession from the cathedral plaza, blessing, and Tupa-Tupa knocking ceremony raised donations for local organizations (Catholic Charities of Southeast Texas, Southeast Texas Food Bank, and Nutrition and Services for Seniors).  12 News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lamar University researchers are developing a $1M AI system funded by the Texas Department of Transportation to boost safety along Southeast Texas waterways. The web-based tool will launch by 2028 (aiming to reduce human error and prevent collisions).  12 News Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • Southeast Texans will join a Walk to End Lupus in Beaumont tomorrow at Tyrrell Park, with registration opening at 7:30 a.m. and the walk starting at 9 a.m. to raise awareness for better local treatment resources (with a kids zone for families) while organizers aim to raise $15,000.  12 News Now
