CRIME NEWS

  • On September 29, Carla Culver, 49, drove her car into a man who was taking back her Hyundai outside Temptations Cabaret—he got a very bad leg injury that needed emergency surgery and she now faces felony charges for aggravated assault that could send her to prison for 2 to 20 years and fine her up to $10,000.  KFDM
  • Beaumont law enforcement is asking the public for help in locating Cody Parker, 46, wanted on several criminal charges including possession of a controlled substance, penalty group 1/1-B — less than one gram.  KFDM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At a forum hosted by the Greater Beaumont Chamber of Commerce, four city council candidates stressed the need to boost public safety by hiring more police and fire staff—supporting a plan for a hotel and convention center to revitalize downtown. They noted that celebrating local assets like Lamar University and our strong petrochemical industry could help change the city's negative image.  12 News Now
  • Jefferson County Commissioners approved a $4 million federal grant to start a jail diversion program aimed at giving mental health care to people arrested for non-violent crimes. Sheriff Zena Stephens said the program will use two dorms—housing up to 40 individuals for three to five days—to keep people out of jail and offer local interns hands-on experience.  12 News Now
  • The City of Groves is proposing to fund road repairs by charging transportation user fees on homes and businesses based on their traffic — a consultant will review each property to set the fee. City Manager Kevin Carruth said the fees will be small and a public workshop will be held tomorrow at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chamber to explain the plan.  FOX 4 Beaumont

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Southeast Texas Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention will hold its annual Out of the Darkness walk on Saturday, April 5th from 9 a.m. until noon in Beaumont to bring hope and save lives. Nearly 50,000 Americans died by suicide in 2022 (the 11th leading cause of death) and the event aims to raise awareness.  KFDM
