- ➤ Buckner Children and Family Services and KLBT radio are partnering in the 14th annual Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls Drive to collect new shoes and socks for vulnerable children until May 2. The drive will support Buckner International's ongoing effort that has provided over 5 million pairs in more than 80 countries. FOX 4 Beaumont
- ➤ More than 360 volunteers worked at 36 community agencies on Friday, March 28 to complete tasks such as lawn care, cleaning, food packing & wood sanding in a United Way service project that helped support programs for seniors, food assistance and the upcoming Easter Egg Hunt at the Heritage Society. - ➤ Jefferson County grand jury indicted suspect Keontay Torrion Batiste, 33, on a manslaughter charge for a fatal crash at the intersection of Gladys and Lucas on January 4 that killed 83-year-old Henry Guy Knobloch and left Batiste with serious injuries. KFDM
- ➤ Colby Hunter Tatom pleaded guilty Tuesday at the Jasper County Courthouse to tampering with a human corpse in the Cristi Ruso case and admitted he shot and killed her, burned her body behind his home and dumped it in the Neches River—he now faces a 20-year state prison sentence. KFDM
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The city of Beaumont is working with Union Pacific to reinstate its quiet zones by replacing old barrier posts with new concrete curbs—if the plan submitted on January 31 passes review. City officials said site inspections are set for the end of April, the final review is due early May, and construction will start in September if all plans are approved. Beaumont Enterprise
- ➤ In Nederland, Lindsey Barrera has driven on I-10 for 16 months to get to her school job and says that the potholes are damaging her car and putting drivers at risk. She says temporary repairs by Tx-Dot have not fixed the issue and asks that the agency or contractor cover the cost of repairs—raising concerns that drivers may not see the potholes at night. KFDM
