- ➤ The SETX Strong Families Coalition will host its free 2nd Annual Family Fun Day at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 3920 W Cardinal Dr, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on April 12, where families will enjoy games, free food + school readiness and literacy resources provided by BISD and local programs. - ➤ A Port Neches man received a call from an unknown 409 number that used AI to copy his sister’s voice and make him believe she was hurt—he then confirmed her safety, and local officials warn that scams using AI are on the rise in Southeast Texas. 12 News Now
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Today, AMSET in downtown Beaumont will host two new exhibitions featuring Texas-based artists; Tom Jean Webb: A True Fairytale will show mixed media canvases and an interactive seesaw sculpture (a new commission) while José Villalobos: An In Between will display works that examine cultural identity through photographs, sculptures, and a video room. - ➤ Beaumont voters will choose between LaDonna Sherwood and Terry Roy in the race for the Ward 3 City Council seat as longtime Councilmember Audwin Samuel steps down. Early voting begins April 22 with Election Day on May 3—both candidates promise to improve local infrastructure and community support. 12 News Now
- ➤ Major construction will begin in mid-April on West Lucas Drive to install a 2.3-mile storm sewer line that will transform Lucas into a cone zone — impacting six major intersections and daily traffic — and inconvenience local residents and businesses.
