EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Beaumont ISD recorded an 89.1% attendance rate in 2024 and district officials now debate whether hiring additional truancy officers will boost student engagement and academic outcomes (a shift from penalties to support measures). KFDM
- ➤ Lamar University announced a new Doctor of Business Administration in Energy Management aimed at experienced professionals and featuring online coursework. The program, which can be completed in two and a half years, will be formally presented today from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Setzer Student Center. 12 News Now
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ DFPS invites community members to join Go Blue Day today at noon at the BIG fire hydrant (219 Main Street, downtown) to show support for Child Abuse Prevention Month. - ➤ State and local leaders broke ground in Port Arthur on Entergy’s project to build two power plants that will produce 1,200 megawatts for over 300,000 homes by 2028; some residents are concerned about safety and lack of community meetings (officials say entergy is addressing these concerns). 12 News Now
