COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Beaumont Farmer's Market opens today at 8 a.m. and runs until 11 a.m. with local vendors selling fresh eggs, produce, meats, baked goods, pottery and homemade items; families using Lone Star or SNAP can receive market money by presenting their card at the information booth.  Beaumont Enterprise
  • Today, the Beaumont Police Department unveiled a new women's locker room named the Legacy Lounge during a ribbon cutting ceremony led by the Chief of Police, honoring fallen officers Sheena Yarbrough-Powell and Lisa Beaulieu. Community members supported the project by purchasing items from an Amazon wishlist organized by the Junior League—families of the officers also attended the event to express their gratitude.  KFDM

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Port Neches Police Department is investigating the death of a 35-year-old worker from Port Arthur who was welding today at Sterling Shipyard on Main Street, and officials say his death is not related to an industrial accident—an autopsy will determine if health issues or another factor caused his death.  KFDM

CRIME NEWS

  • Beaumont Police charged a 19-year-old man already in jail and a 16-year-old juvenile on April 11 for allegedly planning to kill a witness to the January 1 shooting of Clifford Motton — the investigation is still ongoing.  12 News Now
  • Animal care officials say the Humane Society of Southeast Texas is urging legal action after four animals were abandoned at its Beaumont facility within 72 hours; staff found weakened puppies on April 8, a dog with nonfunctional back legs on April 10, and a kitten left in a box on April 11 (investigation continues).  12 News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Many Southeast Texans in Beaumont wonder why road construction takes so long for two major highway interchanges. Texas Department of Transportation spokesperson Tanya Avila said the agency must follow a strict process—including project identification, funding, planning, public involvement, environmental review and design—before construction begins and urged patience as work continues.  Beaumont Enterprise
