Today, the 33rd annual Breakfast with the Bishop event was held at St. Jude's Family Life Center with Courville's providing breakfast to raise funds for Catholic Charities that supplies food, shelter, and counseling to residents in need.
Bishop David Toups expressed his joy in reuniting the community—he said it feels like a special gift after years of social distancing.
Emergency crews responded Saturday night on Bigner Road near 6700 when a two-vehicle crash sent one man climbing out of the sunroof while another was thrown from the car before it submerged, and a dive team recovered the vehicle Sunday afternoon—no injuries were reported and the cause remains under investigation.
A pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle on North Major Drive near Highway 105 Sunday night at about 9:15 and police are still investigating the crash—gathering evidence and spending several hours on scene.
The Rose City Marshal's Office — along with Beaumont police K9 units, the Orange County Sheriff's Office, DPS and Vidor Police Department — searched for a driver who fled a traffic stop Saturday afternoon after the car sped away and the suspect bailed on foot at FM 1136 on I-10, and his whereabouts remain unknown.
