- ➤ Cookie Cancer Foundation is hosting its free 10th annual Easter Weekend of Fun to honor the memory of the founder’s mother who died of colon cancer. The event starts April 19 at Lamar West Side Park from noon—6 p.m. with a Family Fun Day and continues Easter Sunday with an egg hunt, games, and food for children and families. KFDM

- ➤ Amber Nicole Staten, a 38-year-old Texas corrections officer at the LeBlanc Unit in Beaumont, was charged with a third-degree felony for allegedly smuggling a cell phone into the prison after staff discovered it hidden under a dayroom table on April 2—and she was arrested on April 14 with a $10,000 bond set. 12 News Now
- ➤ Jamarcus Huntsberry, 28, surrendered at Hardin County Jail Tuesday, April 15—after a weekend shooting in Silsbee wounded a 19-year-old man in an altercation that began on April 11. KFDM
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Lamar University is on alert after five international students had their visas revoked and the university is guiding its staff on how to respond to ICE encounters. The provost emailed faculty on Monday with instructions to remain calm, defer to campus police, and advise students to contact international student advisors—steps aimed at protecting those affected. - ➤ A free youth conference called Living on the Other Side of 'Yes' will take place this Saturday, April 19th, from 10am to 3pm at Jenkins Memorial Church of God in Christ on S.
