ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Two men died and one remains in critical condition after a workboat exploded on Taylor Bayou at the J.D. Murphree Wildlife Refuge just before 7:30 a.m. Wednesday—first responders performed CPR before transporting victims to hospitals while investigators from the Coast Guard and other agencies examine the cause.  FOX 4 Beaumont

CRIME NEWS

  • Heladio Ruchon Rocha-Tellez, 31, pleaded guilty to illegal reentry after removal and received a 16-month federal prison term from U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone on April 22—he was caught mid-burglary at a Beaumont laundry mat on Dec. 19, 2023.  12 News Now
  • Beaumont Police indicted 19-year-old Jason Monroe Murchison Jr.—he is already in jail on a murder charge—and a 16-year-old for planning to kill a witness to the January 1 shooting of Clifford Motton after a recorded call showed Murchison told the juvenile to poison the witness by mixing Promethazine with eye drops on April 11.  12 News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Catholic Diocese held a Requiem Mass on April 22 at 6 p.m. at St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica to honor the late Pope Francis—Bishop Toups invited the community to join nine days of prayer and to pray for the Cardinals as they prepare for the conclave.  KFDM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Local emergency workers from Beaumont + Groves, Port Arthur, and other nearby cities joined a full-scale drill at Jack Brooks Airport on April 22 to practice mass casualty response. The FAA required the drill to test how teams handled a simulated plane or bus emergency with more than 50 injured people+ officials said the exercise improved readiness for real events.  Beaumont Enterprise

SPORTS NEWS

  • Ten Southland Conference players, including Lamar's Khalan Griffin (who rushed for 1,158 yards) and East Texas A&M's Kendall Paul (who ran a 4.27-second 40-yard dash), are now gaining NFL attention ahead of the draft this weekend in Green Bay. Several players are reportedly in contact with teams like the Dallas Cowboys and Miami Dolphins and may join NFL rosters as undrafted free agents if not selected.  Beaumont Enterprise
