- ➤ Fuma Dubai Hookah Lounge and Grill in Beaumont will update its menu with Cajun-inspired dishes after customer requests; owner Warren Pena said the new offerings include crawfish eggrolls, Cajun rice, macaroni and cheese, and a Hurricane frozen drink that will debut on June 1 — a move to attract both regular and new diners. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 54-year-old man from Groves was convicted by a Jefferson County jury Thursday for hitting a relative in the head with a handgun in March 2022—he now faces 25 to 99 years or life in prison because of his prior felonies. 12 News Now

- ➤ Downtown Beaumont is set to host a free Crawfish, Art and Music Fest on Sunday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Downtown Event Center at 700 Crockett St.—the event will feature local music acts, crawfish boils, food vendors and arts and crafts. 12 News Now

- ➤ Tekoa Academy earned the only A rating in Region 5 in the 2023 TEA accountability ratings. The public charter school has served mostly economically disadvantaged and minority students since 1999 and will soon launch a new program—allowing parents to observe classes and provide anonymous feedback. - ➤ Texas Connections Academy advisor Jessica Busceme shared test-taking tips on a noon show on April 25th—suggesting strategies for students from grade school to college who are preparing for the SAT and ACT exams. KFDM
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Beaumont City Council candidate Brian Nepveux said he remains on the ballot but will stop campaigning until election day, May 3, after saying he has been hurt by harsh personal attacks. He endorsed A.J. Turner and said he will focus on his charity, family, business, and community service — a choice made after years of hard work in the race. KFDM
- ➤ The Texas Comptroller’s Office announced that the Emergency Preparation Supplies Sales Tax Holiday starts at 12:01 a.m. today and ends at midnight Monday, April 28, letting shoppers buy qualifying emergency supplies tax free. Shoppers must meet price limits with delivery charges included and can ask for a refund if tax is charged—helping consumers save money for emergencies like hurricanes, flash floods, or wildfires.
