Tammy Smith, founder of PAWS who helped save and rehome animals, died Friday, April 25 at Mid-Jefferson Extended Care Facility after battling cancer.
Visitation is set for Monday from 6-9 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home in Vidor & a graveside service will be held Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. at Del Rose Cemetery in Vidor.
Early voting for Beaumont city and school board elections ran from April 22 through April 29 and ended its fifth day Saturday with 5,798 ballots cast—5,432 in person and 366 by mail, with Rogers Park recording 3,270 votes.
Beaumont Police Department 9-1-1 Dispatch Supervisor Jenna Trahan recounted her path from rigorous screening to nearly a decade in dispatch, explaining that new hires undergo a two- to three-week orientation followed by 10 months of on-the-floor training to manage emergency, non-emergency, and administrative calls. She said that new technology like text 9-1-1 and Rapid SOS has improved response time—yet staffing shortages force many dispatchers to work overtime so every call is answered.
