Beaumont police are investigating an auto-pedestrian crash reported shortly after 2:30 p.m. Sunday on the 1100 block of Oregon Avenue—where a child was taken by ambulance to CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth Hospital in front of Windchase Apartments.
A Beaumont man, Paul Edward Westbrooks, is set to stand trial today for his role in a 2023 home invasion that left two men dead — his second trial after a January mistrial, and he faces possible automatic life sentences if convicted.
A JCSO deputy on overnight patrol spotted an erratic driver on Reese Road between Buna and Evadale at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday and stopped four teens for weapons violations—17-year-old Landon Marceaux from Lumberton was charged with theft of a firearm while teens from Beaumont and Lumberton were charged with unlawfully carrying a weapon and are in custody.
Pear Orchard Cemetery in Beaumont received an official historical marker during a ceremony honoring its legacy and the stories of those interred — Historic Sacred Spaces and the Jefferson County Historical Society led the effort to preserve the landmark dating back to the 1870s.
