ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Yesterday at about 12:30 p.m. on Dolores Street near Fannett, Beaumont police, fire, and EMS responded to an accident where a car ended up upside down and the driver got out safely after saying his brakes went out (witness report).  KFDM

CRIME NEWS

  • Beaumont police are searching for three gunmen linked to a double shooting at Starcrest Apartments at 3255 El Mira where one victim was shot in the neck and critically injured while another arrived at a hospital by private auto—video footage shows a vehicle pulling up as suspects began shooting.  KFDM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • LIT lineman students competed in the annual Lineman Rodeo Friday at the Frank Robinson Center in Silsbee where eleven soon-to-be graduates completed timed challenges like speed-climbing 40-foot poles + simulated rescues to build job skills and will receive their diplomas next week after a rigorous two-semester certificate course.  12 News Now
  • Beaumont ISD honored its top teachers at a gala held May 2 at the Beaumont Civic Center, where Carla Berotte of Dishman Elementary and Joshua Windham of Odom Academy Middle School were named Teachers of the Year. Winners received prize packages over $2,400 and campus teachers earned awards over $600 (sponsored by ExxonMobil, Entergy Texas, and Regina Rogers) at the event.  12 News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Voters in Beaumont are heading to the polls today to choose a mayor, ward seats, and school board members after early voting saw over 10,800 ballots cast between April 22 and April 29. Contests in Port Arthur, Nederland, Jasper, Orange, Vidor, and Bridge City include additional mayoral races and bond issues for local projects—all setting the stage for future regional decisions.  KFDM
  • Beaumont city council will review Article 6, Gaming Sites and Gaming Machines at its Tuesday afternoon work session to consider new game room rules. The meeting comes days after the elections and follows a North Texas ruling that lets cities ban game rooms+ a similar measure in Orange reached its first reading and may take effect on August 4.  KFDM
