CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A person was shot early Thursday morning at the Seacrest Apartments in the 3200 block of Elmira on Beaumont’s southside and taken to a hospital — officers responded just before 5 a.m. as the incident adds to six other shootings reported in the city this week amid a suspected feud, though no connection has been confirmed. 12 News Now
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Beaumont ISD held a meeting on April 30 to announce that starting next year, secondary students will use Yondr Pouches to store their phones during class, with students having a medical exemption given Velcro access (lost pouches cost a fee). The district will also upgrade safety measures by ordering new defibrillators and training staff on a silent panic alert system (Raptor Silent Alert System) for emergencies. Beaumont Enterprise
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Texas Department of Transportation said that starting May 12th, the U.S. 69 southbound connector to Interstate 10 will be reduced from two lanes to one—drivers near the Eastex Interchange should drive cautiously as traffic delays are expected. The lane change will last until the project ends in 2029. Beaumont Enterprise
- ➤ TxDOT said that the final weekend closure for Maury Meyers Bridge demolition starts at 8 p.m. today and runs until 5 a.m. Monday, May 12. The closure blocks the I-10 westbound frontage road from Calder Ave to Laurel St — forcing drivers to use alternate routes until the new roadway opens no earlier than 2029. 12 News Now
- ➤ An intersection near the soccer fields on Dishman Road is closed to repair a water leak — Precinct 1 Commissioner Brandon Willis said crews set up barricades earlier Thursday. The road will remain closed through today morning as repair workers work to find and fix the leak. KFDM

- ➤ Local high school golfers from Kelly Catholic, Hardin-Jefferson, and Orangefield competed in state championships across Texas this week. Kelly Catholic’s Reece Williams earned second-team all-state honors in the TAPPS 5A event in Waco while Orangefield’s Lincoln Parks finished fifth with a hole-in-one — Hardin-Jefferson’s boys team broke a 19-year streak by qualifying for the UIL Class 4A championship in Kingsland.
