Today, the 40th Annual Boys Haven Crawfish, Food, and Music Festival attracted a large crowd at the Boys' Haven campus as the free event offered a variety of food options such as crawfish, corn, potatoes, hot dogs, and Frito pie while local music featuring zydeco, country, Texas rock, and oldies added to the festive atmosphere.
St. Michael Mediterranean Festival came back to Beaumont, offering free Greek and Mediterranean food, music, dancing, and a kids area while reviving a tradition that began in 1909 with the St. Michael’s Syrian Dinner.
Volunteer coordinator Raquel Haddad said the event honored the local Middle Eastern Orthodox community + linked many different cultures in the area.
Karizma Breen started Build A Bar in Lumberton to offer a personalized travel bar experience where customers choose their own bartender and drinks.
She plans to expand with a trailer and snack bar—an idea that has already drawn clients from Beaumont and Dallas.
Texas Catholic bishops said the newly elected Pope Leo XIV, chosen on May 8, is expected to support immigrant outreach based on his years serving as a missionary in Peru+ they believe his background will help meet the needs of border communities.
Bishop Mark Seitz of El Paso added he is confident that the first American pope will continue to back migrant ministries+ local church leaders share his optimism for future support for these groups.
