  • Girls' Haven will host a free event on May 29 at 5:30 p.m. at its campus with Ehrhart Charter School to celebrate past achievements and announce future plans—community leaders including Mr. Joe Penland will attend.  FOX 4 Beaumont
  • Beaumont held its annual Fallen Officers Memorial ceremony at police headquarters yesterday, May 14, where members of the Beaumont Police Department & families honored 20 officers who died in the line of duty from 1881 to 2020 by laying bouquets and wreaths at the memorial base.  Beaumont Enterprise

  • A judge extended the court order preserving the fatal accident scene at Port Arthur LNG until May 28 after a collapse killed two workers and injured one—stopping companies like Bechtel, Sempra, and ConocoPhillips from disturbing the site while a hearing is set at 11 a.m. on May 28 in Jefferson County’s court.  12 News Now

CRIME NEWS

  • Jefferson County grand jury indicted teenager Myles Horne for murder & aggravated robbery for the April 8 killing of 63-year-old Terry Thompson during an attempted theft of his motorized bicycle near the crime scene on Chaison.  KFDM
  • Myles Horne—a 17-year-old from Beaumont—was indicted on Wednesday for murder and aggravated robbery after police charged him in the fatal shooting of 63-year-old Terry Lee Thompson, who was riding a motorized bicycle during an attempted robbery on May 7 on the 1300 block of Pipkin Street.  12 News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Tekoa Academy superintendent Princess Chretien, from the only school in the region to earn an 'A' rating, said she supports a Texas House bill that would end the annual STAAR test in favor of three smaller exams to better track student progress — the bill now moves to the Senate for further review. This new testing schedule, which Tekoa already uses, aims to reflect that every child learns differently.  FOX 4 Beaumont

HEALTH NEWS

  • Gift of Life is offering free prostate cancer screenings for men in Lumberton, Orange, Port Arthur, and Beaumont this June and July. The tests help catch the cancer early — which can boost the nearly 100% five-year survival rate for localized cases.  FOX 4 Beaumont
