  • Charlotte, a one-month-old long-haired kitten, became available for adoption at Beaumont Animal Care on May 14th—she arrived as a stray with two brothers and has an adoption fee of $70.  Beaumont Enterprise
  • During May, National Foster Care Month, Beaumont’s Rainbow Room is asking residents to donate clothing + school supplies and diapers to help abused and neglected children, as local leaders Chris Cullagher and volunteer Katherine Read stressed the need on The Morning Show.  KFDM

CRIME NEWS

  • Beaumont police have five suspects in custody and are now searching for a sixth suspect linked to a Maddox Street shooting that injured a juvenile and an adult on May 5 — 19-year-old Yamuel Burgos is wanted on a Deadly Conduct warrant while other suspects have been arrested for parole violations, deadly conduct, or tampering with evidence.  KFDM
  • Southeast Texas experts are warning residents to hire trusted local contractors to avoid scams as hurricane season nears; they urge checking Better Business Bureau ratings and verifying licenses + insurance before any repairs begin.  12 News Now
  • On May 14, a Jefferson County court imposed strict conditions on former BISD electrician Calvin Walker by requiring him to wear a GPS monitor and stay within the county as part of his appeal bond—Walker was sentenced to nine years in prison but remains out on appeal. The court also ordered him to immediately turn over several assets—including properties in Port Arthur and Beaumont and two bucket trucks—to help cover more than $1.17 million in restitution to the Beaumont Independent School District.  12 News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Beaumont ISD board elected new officers following the May 3 election during Thursday night's meeting—Thomas Sigee Sr. was named board president, Robert C. Dunn Sr. as vice president, and Woodrow Reece II as board secretary.  KFDM
  • Rep. Randy Weber secured $172,711,000 through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Fiscal Year 2025 Work Plan to deepen the Sabine-Neches Waterway (from 40 to the authorized depth of 48 feet) and improve regional commerce and energy transport. The Sabine-Neches Navigation District will use the funds for ongoing construction of this critical waterway.  KFDM
  • Beaumont city officials are addressing high fire department overtime after spending $12.7 million over five years and facing challenges with increased sick leave and post-COVID staffing. The plan— which includes checking sick leave calls and retiring support vehicle Air One— has drawn union criticism as officials work to hire more staff.  Beaumont Enterprise

  • The 15th Babe Zaharias High School Junior Golf Awards will be held May 20 at 5 Under Golf Center in Beaumont — honoring local high school golfers for performance and character. University of Arkansas golf coach Brad McMakin, a Beaumont native, will speak at the invite-only banquet starting 6 p.m. — adding insight to the event.  Beaumont Enterprise
  • Three Nederland High School athletes (Troy Sedtal, Kyra Long, and Jayden Davis) signed National Letters of Intent in their school gymnasium, marking a key step in their college sports careers. Sedtal will join Iowa Central Community College to compete in track events, and Long will run for Eastern New Mexico while Davis will attend Texas College (drawing on family ties).  12 News Now
