At the March 25 City Council meeting, residents spoke out against the firefighters’ union for pushing a vote of no confidence in Fire Chief Earl White and for high overtime spending that reached nearly $9 million, noting that only 37 of 229 firefighters live in the city.
Union President Jeff Nesom said extra hours come from staff shortages and that sick leave use is not abuse—claims that many local groups dispute.
