COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Drivers were advised to exercise caution along Dowlen Road near Parkdale Mall as several stoplights went off on Sunday afternoon when a power outage struck the West End. Businesses including Michael’s, Marshalls, and McDonald’s lost power along a stretch of Dowlen, Old Dowlen, Ridge, Odom and the Eastex Freeway—though Parkdale Mall’s signals stayed on.  KFDM

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Beaumont man narrowly escaped injury when a dead tree fell on his Ford F-150 on the 600 block of East Martin Luther King Boulevard in Jasper Saturday evening — local crews later removed the debris from the roadway.  FOX 4 Beaumont

CRIME NEWS

  • Beaumont police officer Reginald Charles Boykin Jr., 35, was arrested Saturday afternoon during Jeep Weekend on the Bolivar Peninsula for charges of having an open container, expired plates, and not showing his driver’s license—he posted bond and is on paid leave.  KFDM

CULTURE NEWS

  • More than 150 people visited the McFaddin-Ward House Visitor Center on May 8 to view classic cars — including a 1913 Ford Model T and a 1968 Ford Mustang — and then heard a lecture by Matt Anderson on how Detroit and Ford Motor Company changed America.  Beaumont Enterprise
