- ➤ On May 17, the Sterling Pruitt Activity Center hosted Straight Talk for Young Men where over 100 local participants discussed decision-making, abstinence, financial literacy, emotional intelligence, accountability, and leadership — led by community activist Stacy Lewis, Sr. The free event featured door prizes and set the stage for a similar symposium for young ladies in the future. - ➤ A dog wash fundraiser will be held Saturday, May 31 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lumberton Church of Christ—raising funds to pay off vet bills and honor Tammy Smith, the animal rescuer who died in April after a battle with cancer. KFDM
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Beaumont police arrested three more suspects in connection with the Maddox Street shooting; 18-year-old Kevontay Willis turned himself in on May 16, 22-year-old Montreal Lightfoot was taken into custody for discharging a firearm—while a juvenile suspect was apprehended Wednesday on a directive unrelated to the shootings. - ➤ The Orange County Sheriff's Office said that a possible shooting near Rose City on Interstate 10 east from Beaumont left two motorcyclists injured and involved another vehicle Thursday night—authorities continue to investigate the incident. KFDM
- ➤ Beaumont police are investigating a robbery that occurred at about 12:15 p.m. Thursday in the 5800 block of Folsom near Dowlen—witnesses reported seeing a black SUV, possibly a Chevrolet—and no injuries were reported. KFDM
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Identical twin brothers Reese and Rylee Moree graduated as valedictorian and salutatorian from Vidor High yesterday—marking the first time twins have topped the class in district history. They earned near-equal grade point averages and associate degrees from Lamar State College Orange while celebrating their shared success on stage. 12 News Now

- ➤ Beaumont and Port Arthur residents will vote in mayoral runoff elections on June 7 after no candidate reached a majority in the general vote. Early voting begins May 27 and ends June 3—Beaumont voters will choose between former Mayor Robin Mouton and Mayor Roy West while Port Arthur voters decide between Charlotte Moses and Charlie Lewis Jr. 12 News Now

- ➤ Joshua and Jerrime Neal delivered key plays for the Beaumont Renegades this season, with Joshua making a game-winning touchdown in late April and Jerrime scoring two touchdowns on May 10—earning both a Player of the Week award. The twins, who joined the team through different paths, also contributed on defense and returns, and the team will host Alabama Empire on Saturday at Doggett Ford Arena as they push toward the playoffs.
