An SUV went off the road at Redwood and Concord after 2:00 a.m. Saturday in north Beaumont when the driver overcorrected and hit a tree, injuring eight people with fractured skulls, broken femurs, and compound fractures—EMS and Beaumont Fire quickly rescued all occupants and took the driver and one passenger to CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth Hospital.

A suspect accused of killing a man and woman in Gilchrist led officers on a chase that went into Beaumont early Saturday morning—his car jumped a curb on the Interstate 10 service road near Laurel and he barricaded himself inside—and he later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

On May 22, four newly elected Beaumont city council members learned about a multi-million dollar budget proposal they must review in September—city hall officials explained how the budget is built and noted an independent audit checks state and federal funds each year.
