Beaumont honored Franklin Lynn Whorton Tuesday for more than 15 years of work at Lamar University, where he oversaw construction projects that improved academic spaces and helped the campus weather hurricanes (Rita, Ike, Harvey).
The longtime planner, now in hospice care, leaves a lasting legacy for students.

Earlier this spring, Drainage District 7 tested a 36-mile levee, seawall and 20 pump stations to prepare for hurricane season in South Jefferson.
Officials upgraded pump engines and tanker trucks while partnering with the Army Corps of Engineers (Sabine Pass to Galveston project) to boost regional protection.
