- ➤ Panera Bread at 4104 Dowlen Rd. closed on Tuesday after 15 employees were told on Sunday that their jobs would end due to low sales and high competition—customers must now go to Baytown or Lake Charles for their favorites. Beaumont Enterprise
- ➤ Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers is opening in Beaumont this fall at 4490 Crow Road — construction began recently on the former Steak 'n Shake site and the new location is set to open mid-November. KFDM
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A fight at the United States Penitentiary Beaumont on Monday evening left one inmate dead, two inmates hospitalized and a fourth treated for minor injuries—correctional officers quickly contained the incident while emergency services responded. 12 News Now
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The KIDmunity Program announced the Troupe Camp will perform Legally Blonde to give young women more stage time at Beaumont Community Theater. Students must register by June 9 with auditions at 6 p.m., and the camp runs from June 9 to July 18 with shows on July 18 and 19—registration is $275 per student with a sibling discount available—. - ➤ Dr. Shannon Allen was named Region 5 Superintendent of the Year for Beaumont ISD as she led the district through challenges including COVID-19 and a teacher shortage. She will be interviewed later in the summer by the TASB State Selection Committee as one of five state finalists. KFDM
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A new recycling facility is set to open by the end of June, giving Beaumont residents and businesses a way to trade scrap metals for cash — the drive-thru site will handle metals like steel, aluminum, copper, brass, and stainless steel while planning to add plastics and glass later.
