ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Lawyers representing the family of a worker killed in the Port Arthur LNG scaffold collapse requested records from Zachry Group including Reginald Magee’s personnel file—training certifications, job assignments and internal communications; a hearing on a temporary injunction will be held on June 11 at 1:30 p.m. in Jefferson County’s 172nd District Court to decide evidence preservation measures.  12 News Now

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Alli's Home and Fashion moved from its old College Street plaza to a new space at 3871 Stagg Dr. Ste 176 inside the Gateway Shopping Center after the plaza was sold, and the move gives the store extra dressing rooms — combining all areas into one space — to boost local visibility.  Beaumont Enterprise

CRIME NEWS

  • Donald Ray Taylor, 36, was sentenced to 50 years in prison yesterday by a Jefferson County jury for shooting his girlfriend in Port Arthur on March 7 at about 5 a.m.—he used a handgun during a domestic dispute when she refused to exit the car.  KFDM
  • A 26-year-old man, Kedrain Perkins, received two concurrent 55-year sentences after pleading guilty to the murders of Felton Jones on January 1 and Isaiah Wagner on January 30 (Jones was killed outside a Beaumont home and Wagner was shot at Beaumont Heights Apartments) and is set to head to state prison.  FOX 4 Beaumont

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, nine men and women took the oath to serve in the Beaumont Police Department at the downtown Event Centre. The department also promoted three officers and presented lifesaving awards—recognizing outstanding conduct.  FOX 4 Beaumont

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Two local businessmen (Chris Richardson and Rob Fuselier) signed a contract to buy and restore Beaumont's historic Gilbert Building, which was gutted by fire one year ago and remains under a temporary restraining order to delay demolition. The sale will likely be finalized after a city council meeting on July 16 with a 30-day closing period in place.  12 News Now

  • Lamar University athletic director Jeff O'Malley said the sports program built a strong foundation by winning two Southland Conference Commissioner’s Cups with improved track and cross country teams—he said the next goal is to help more teams win NCAA championships and get ready for the new season.  Beaumont Enterprise
