  • Beaumont Police Chief Tim Ocnaschek said the department expects a slight increase in youth-related crimes such as petty theft, burglaries, and car break-ins this summer—urging residents to lock their vehicles and secure their belongings while also expanding community programs that include reading initiatives, basketball leagues, and park events.  12 News Now
  • Beaumont police said a 66-year-old man was stabbed in the hand at Hailey's Wash House when he asked a loitering man to leave at about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, and the suspect—described as black, wearing black pants, a black tank top, a red Washington Nationals cap, and black and white shoes—ran toward the intersection of 4th Street and Blanchette Street.  KFDM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials said heavy rains saturated the ground and overwhelmed neighborhood streets and drainage inlets, showing limits in the system's ability to move stormwater to larger canals. Residents are asked to report slow-draining flood areas by calling 311 — reports will help officials improve stormwater management.  12 News Now
  • The Texas Legislature passed House Bill 1902 that makes jugging a crime when someone follows a person who withdrew cash to rob them or break into their vehicle—if a suspect breaks in or robs someone, the offense is a state jail felony and may rise to a third degree felony or even a first degree felony. The bill affects cities including Beaumont and now awaits the governor's signature to take effect on September 1.  KFDM
