- ➤ The City of Beaumont will host its annual Fourth of July celebration at the Downtown Event Centre and Lake at 700 Crockett Street on Friday, July 4 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., with free entry and food trucks available. Live music by headliner Paul Childers, The Hype Band and local performer Luke Whitney will feature along with a fireworks display launching toward the Neches River at 9 p.m.—a patriotic performance will also take place at 8 p.m. at Julie Rogers Theatre. 12 News Now

- ➤ Bob Castro and his daughter Angela Watford retraced the footsteps of his mother Caroline Reyna Castro—who worked as a welder at the old Pennsylvania Shipyards during World War II—by touring the historic island in the Neches River between the Purple Heart Bridge and Port of Beaumont last week. They also visited the Tyrrell Historical Library to research more about her legacy. Beaumont Enterprise

- ➤ Metin Isik, a nearly 30-year education veteran with international experience in Turkey, Bulgaria, Bosnia, and Oman, has been named principal of Harmony Science Academy — Beaumont Middle and High School. He said he believes every child deserves a future full of possibilities — a focus that will drive his efforts to improve STEM education and student success. 12 News Now

- ➤ Beaumont officials and community partners broke ground on June 25th at the site of the new VA clinic at 3295 College St.—the expanded facility, built by a veteran-owned firm, will be twice as large as the current clinic and offer services like primary care, mental health, radiology, rehabilitation, and prosthetics while construction is set to last two years. - ➤ Beaumont residents still have trouble flushing their toilets after heavy rain as the city uses vacuum trucks and check valves for short-term relief along with a $6 million annual plan for long-term sewer repairs—recent improvements have reduced overflow and service calls since 2023. Mayor Roy West and councilmembers have addressed these concerns as new data-driven programs help predict and prevent future issues. KFDM

- ➤ Isaiah Reed of Hamshire-Fannett showed strong athletic skill last season by recording 7 touchdowns and 40 tackles while posting a 41-inch vertical leap and a 10.9-second 100-meter dash at college camps - numbers that led several programs including Lamar University to offer him a scholarship.
