BISD Superintendent Sandi Massey told the board today that the district's test scores have dropped to 27% after a previous increase and that nearly 50 teacher vacancies remain.
The district will hold job fairs next month and plans to hire new staff while working with parents and students to boost performance.

Local potter John Alexander is welcoming learners to hands-on pottery classes at his J.
Alexander Studio off Magnolia Avenue. Participants can learn wheel throwing, hand-building techniques and glazing while residents contact the studio for schedules (registration details available upon inquiry).

Ascend Community Group and Step Forward Treatment Center will hold 2nd Annual Mental Health Gala on Saturday, June 27 at the Shahan Events Center with keynote Dr. Tonesa Welch.
Also, Dr. Welch will host a book signing at Barnes & Noble on Friday, June 26 off Dowlen Road in Beaumont.
