COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Catholic Charities of Southeast Texas is coordinating donation drop offs at the Manger Youth Center—open Monday through Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.—to aid flood victims in Central Texas after the disaster that began on July 4. The Diocese of Beaumont urges parishioners to contribute both monetary gifts and essential supplies.  KFDM
  • Hundreds gathered today at St. Anne Church to honor flood victims including Mary Grace Baker and Joyce Badon during a rosary service—church director Melissa Murray said the event featured pink bows as symbols of remembrance and brought the community together in support.  KFDM
  • St. Anne Catholic Church is mourning Mary Grace Baker, an 8-year-old known for her joyful spirit, after her body was found Monday following floodwaters at Camp Mystic on July 4 — floodwaters that claimed many lives. The church said details on her services will be announced later — and the Baker family has asked for privacy.  KFDM

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Two Kelly High School graduates from Beaumont, Ella Cahill and Aidan Heartfield, remain missing following catastrophic flooding in the Texas Hill Country that killed over 100 people over the weekend—bodies of two friends were recovered near State Highway 39 in Hunt—and search teams continue working in dangerous water conditions.  12 News Now

CRIME NEWS

  • Officer Bryan Hebert was killed in the line of duty on July 8 when a suspect intentionally struck his patrol car on Dowlen Road—he served with the department for 10 years and was 36—and the driver, charged with capital murder after pleading no contest for assaulting family members, was sentenced to life in prison.  KFDM

  • Bassmaster Magazine has confirmed that Southeast Texas lakes are among the best for bass fishing as summer draws local anglers. Sam Rayburn Reservoir ranked fourth in the Central Division—Toledo Bend Reservoir came in sixth and Texas had nine lakes on the list.  12 News Now
