COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Joyce Catherine Badon, a 21-year-old Beaumont resident, died earlier this week from flooding in Kerr County and her funeral plans have been announced—family and friends will gather at Broussard’s on July 18 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., while a mass at 700 Jefferson St will be followed by a Wedding Feast at 15075 Country Club Drive on July 19.  FOX 4 Beaumont
  • Beaumont held a prayer service on Wednesday evening at Jefferson Theatre to support those affected by Kerr County flooding that killed over 100 people on July 9. Church and government leaders along with community members gathered to mourn the loss of local students and offer comfort to grieving families.  Beaumont Enterprise
  • Members of the Kelly High School community gathered at Kelly Catholic High School library Thursday night to honor four Beaumont natives lost in the Kerr County flood. Rev. CRIME NEWS

  • An inmate at the Stiles Unit in Beaumont died Wednesday, July 9 after staff found him unresponsive and began lifesaving measures – emergency responders arrived but he was pronounced dead as the Texas Office of Inspector General launched its standard investigation.  12 News Now
  • A Beaumont man, Brian Keith Murphy, 33, was sentenced to more than 7 years in federal prison for firing a gun while on supervised release as a felon after officers tracked him following a shooting near a gas station on Concord Avenue on August 11th, 2024—two firearms were recovered when his vehicle was stopped.  Beaumont Enterprise

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Jefferson County officials are urging residents to sign up for pre-disaster volunteer training as hurricane season begins and search efforts continue along the Guadalupe River. Michelle Brewer and Robert Grimm stressed that proper training keeps volunteers and households safe + ensures a more effective response when disasters occur.  12 News Now
  • Texas state agencies are preparing plans to protect livestock and wildlife from the New World Screwworm as Gov. Abbott said the state will use science-based methods if the pest spreads from its current location 700 miles south of the border. Officials are forming a joint response team and enhancing coordination with federal measures — including an $8.5 million fly dispersal facility — to guard Texas’ multi-billion dollar industries.  Beaumont Enterprise

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Residents of Cypress Bend Village Apartments on North Major Dr. were notified on May 28 that ownership transferred from Seldin Company to TAM Residential as of June 6—part of a bond deal involving the Beaumont Housing Authority and Foothills Affordable Housing Foundation. A city council meeting had discussed the transfer, and some residents said they were unaware of the change.  Beaumont Enterprise
