  • Courville's + 1701 Barbecue will host 409 CARES, a benefit concert for Kerr County disaster relief on Friday, August 1 at 6 p.m. at Courville's in Beaumont, featuring live music, a full donated meal and a 48-hour online silent auction to raise funds for those in need.  KFDM
  • Local pastors will host a community baptizing event at Collier Ferry Park on July 20 at 3 p.m. and more than 40 church leaders will invite unchurched residents to join the movement — with free food offered and plans to repeat the event annually.  Beaumont Enterprise

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Local bakeries in Beaumont find creative ways to handle unsold bread by donating it to shelters and first responders or repurposing it into bread pudding, compost, or feed for chickens. Rao’s Bakery donates leftovers to the Salvation Army on Saturdays—while H-E-B and Cookie Factory also repurpose any extra bread to help reduce waste.  Beaumont Enterprise

CRIME NEWS

  • Beaumont police arrested 17-year-old Daylien Douglas on Thursday night after he stole a white Ford Expedition and led a chase that caused several minor collisions and ended with a crash on Highway 105 — Eastex Freeway, and he now faces charges of Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle and Felony Evading.  KFDM
  • Beaumont police are investigating a death after a body was discovered in the garage of a vacant, dilapidated home on the 3100 block of Sabine Pass Avenue between Harriot and Euclid—Justice of the Peace Ransom 'Duce' Jones ordered an autopsy as officers note the body had been in place for a long time.  FOX 4 Beaumont

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Beaumont is adding an underpass alert system to warn drivers when high water makes roads dangerous. The system, which uses sensors and flashing warning lights, will be funded by an $827,000 federal grant — and city officials will hire a consultant soon to inspect pump stations.  FOX 4 Beaumont
