ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ 16-year-old Ashton Wise from Nederland survived a 12-foot crocodile attack Friday night off Cozumel when his friends intervened during a snorkeling trip—doctors treated his puncture wounds on his back and arms as he recovers on his family vacation. KFDM
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Beaumont police responded to a call on Saturday morning about a shooting in the 500 block of Dewey Street and found one person dead — the investigation remains ongoing. 12 News Now
- ➤ Beaumont police said a suspect entered the Autumn Cove Apartments on Eastex Freeway late Saturday night, shot a victim multiple times and sped away while the victim was taken to a hospital in stable condition—officers now search for the shooter. KFDM
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Nederland is planning to join Beaumont’s Real-Time Crime Center to boost public safety by 2026. Incoming Police Chief Rod Carroll said the city will apply for grants to secure necessary funding and infrastructure (requested by the City Council) and (expected to support regional law enforcement coordination). 12 News Now
- ➤ At the July 1 meeting, Beaumont emergency management coordinator Shaqueena Nobles explained that the city abandoned outdoor sirens for storm warnings because they were rarely used and less effective indoors—particularly during hurricanes or floods.
