- ➤ Antioch Missionary Baptist Church will hold three events to benefit local kids; the first is a golf tournament at Tyrell Park this Saturday, July 26th with tee off at 8 a.m., followed by a school supply giveaway with backpacks on August 10th and free haircuts and braiding on August 11th—church leaders explained the plans on The Morning Show. - ➤ Beaumont Police identified 46-year-old Martin Joseph as the decomposed body found in a red-tagged structure behind a vacant residence on the 3100 block of Sabine Pass Avenue on July 16—an autopsy was ordered to confirm the cause of death. 12 News Now
- ➤ Jefferson County sheriff Zena Stevens warned Beaumont residents that a Bitcoin scam is targeting victims by falsely claiming that warrants exist—one victim lost $30,000 after depositing money into a Bitcoin machine, and officials advise contacting local law enforcement to confirm any such calls. - ➤ Seventeen Beaumont bond committee members are set to recommend multi-million dollar projects to boost infrastructure, facilities, parks and downtown development for the November bond election. The committee will meet with the public today at 5 p.m. at the Lakeside Center—while the city council has until August 18 to select the projects for the ballot. KFDM
- ➤ Veteran Rod Carroll began his role as the new Nederland Police Chief after taking his oath at 8 a.m. Monday following a unanimous vote by the Nederland City Council on June 23—he brings decades of law enforcement experience including his time as Vidor Police Chief and work with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. - ➤ Lamar University attended a media event in San Antonio on Monday where coach Pete Rossomando and local players Kyndon Fuselier and Kristian Pugh outlined the team’s outlook after being picked fourth in the preseason poll.
