- ➤ Jarvis Grant (32) has been legally blind for 10 years from sickle cell disease and volunteers three times a week at the Southeast Texas Food Bank, inspiring fellow volunteers with his determination. He plans to continue serving the community and hopes his work encourages others facing similar challenges. 12 News Now
- ➤ The Beaumont Animal Care Shelter is overcrowded, housing 101 animals in a facility built for 96 while dogs share limited kennels that affect their health—officials now propose an $8 million new facility off Highway 69 with voters set to decide on the bond issue in November as the shelter prepares for a National Mutt Day adoption event on July 31. - ➤ Legacy Community Health will hand out more than 1,000 backpacks filled with school supplies at a back-to-school festival today—held at Pietzsch MacArthur School in Beaumont—from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. FOX 4 Beaumont
- ➤ The nonprofit Some Other Place in Beaumont warned that federal budget cuts and a lost $30,000 grant may force it to reduce critical services like rent help and emergency aid for those in crisis. The organization will hold Tasting of Some Other Place on August 19 at Beaumont Civic Center — tickets cost $15 — and it is urging the community to support its programs. 12 News Now

CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Beaumont Police investigated a dogfighting operation on Bigner Road in north Beaumont when a tip led to the discovery of ten abandoned dogs in poor condition and the skeletal remains of another dog—equipment linked to dogfighting and cockfighting was seized, and Animal Care was given custody of the animals—with the surviving dogs becoming eligible for adoption in 10 days. - ➤ A 26-year-old man named Asa Jones was indicted for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after he fired six shots during a road rage incident on U.S. 69 on June 12 at 4:05 p.m.—the shooting injured a driver who was hospitalized for serious facial injuries. Beaumont Enterprise

- ➤ Beaumont is considering a bond proposal that will allocate $1 million to add 18 new Flock cameras to help police solve crimes in real time. The City Council must approve the proposal before it goes on the November ballot — community feedback on safety needs drove this plan. 12 News Now
