COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Many Beaumont residents attended Aidan Heartfield's funeral service at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church on Saturday, July 26, while others watched the live stream at All Saints Episcopal School to honor the youth who lost his life in the Guadalupe River flood on July 4. His family and community remember him for his kind nature and love for the outdoors—an impact that will live on in Beaumont.  Beaumont Enterprise
  • Baptist Ministers' Union of Beaumont will host a citywide youth-led explosion event for over 1,000 students returning to school from Tuesday, August 5th through Thursday, August 7th. Speakers including Pastor G.W. Lewis and Pastor Kirkland Hall will present each evening at 7 p.m.  KFDM

  • Silsbee is mourning Melissa Smart—the executive director of the Silsbee Chamber of Commerce—killed in an 18-wheeler crash on FM 92 late Friday night that also claimed her husband Otis Smart Jr., his cousin Terry Smart, and his brother Triston Smart.  FOX 4 Beaumont
  • Melissa Smart, the Silsbee Chamber executive director, and three family members died in a UTV crash on Farm Road 92 in Hardin County late Friday night on July 25—one other passenger was hospitalized.  Beaumont Enterprise

CRIME NEWS

  • Police arrested the getaway driver involved in an armed robbery at the Tobacco 409 store on Washington Boulevard—authorities are still searching for the 38-year-old suspect who allegedly robbed the clerk and the business at gunpoint.  FOX 4 Beaumont

HEALTH NEWS

  • Between June 30 and July 12, Beaumont Public Health inspections showed restaurant scores ranging from 79 to 100 and many locations had issues with sanitation, rusty shelves, undated food, and pests like gnats and cockroaches—some places fixed problems on the spot while others must await follow-up checks.  Beaumont Enterprise
  • CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth Hospital urged parents to update required vaccines for children before school begins in two weeks—Texas law needs immunizations like polio, measles, and chickenpox for enrollment and officials stress the importance of handwashing to help stop infections.  12 News Now
