CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Judge Raquel West declared a mistrial in the case—where 25-year-old Austin Jones is charged with aggravated assault causing serious injuries to his three-month-old daughter after she was allegedly shaken in February—when a prosecution witness was on the stand. KFDM
- ➤ On July 18th, 2024, Beaumont Animal Care seized 10 dogs from a suspected dogfighting ring on Bigner Road after officers discovered deplorable conditions with dogs bearing scars and wounds—these animals are now in foster homes. Beaumont Enterprise
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Beaumont Heritage Society is opening an exhibit titled Agatha Babino: A Narrative of the Formerly Enslaved at Heritage Hall in the John Jay French Museum that shares the rare firsthand account of a formerly enslaved woman who lived in Beaumont. The exhibit opens with a free reception on Aug. 7 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. — a session featuring a Q&A with its creator, Dionne Babineaux. 12 News Now

- ➤ The consulting firm hired by the city presented final recommendations from a survey, a 17-member advisory board, and an open house on Tuesday to guide the proposed bond package. A special meeting on August 12 will let city council choose grouped propositions focusing on $210.5 million in infrastructure, park, and facility improvements+ the bond election must be decided by August 18.
