- ➤ Lady Bug is a lively Pit Bull mix with floppy ears from Beaumont Animal Care who was picked up as a stray near Henry's Place on McFaddin Street and has been available for adoption since June 27 (she needs an active home as she may bump shins when excited). Beaumont Enterprise
- ➤ Today, Southeast Texas animal shelters launch the Clear the Shelters campaign and offer discounted adoption fees through Sept. 1 to ease crowding in shelters like Beaumont Animal Care, which holds over 100 dogs despite a 96-dog capacity + Beaumont Animal Care recently took in 10 dogs from a suspected dogfighting operation, and both shelters hope the discount will help these dogs find new homes. 12 News Now

- ➤ Beaumont's Art Museum of Southeast Texas will host a free Family Arts Day on Saturday, Aug.9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. — families can join art projects using free supplies with recycled materials, see live music by Gator Country at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., enjoy ice cream and other treats, and enter raffles for backpacks and prizes when bringing cans or bottles. 12 News Now

- ➤ Three local organizations are hosting school supply giveaways this Saturday — Weasel and Friends at Magnolia Park, 100 Plus Black Women Coalition at Odom Academy and United Hands Ministry on East Lavaca Street — to help families facing financial strain as many BISD students come from low-income households. The drives aim to ease supply costs for students and parents as the new school year begins. KFDM
- ➤ LIT is hosting an Enrollment Fest on Aug. 5 from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at its Workforce and Allied Health Training Center to ease the enrollment process by providing support for admissions, financial aid, academic advising and course registration — attendees will also tour the campus and receive refreshments and giveaways. - ➤ Beaumont firefighters approved a new contract after nearly 10 months of negotiations and the agreement now awaits final approval from the City Council on Tuesday—if it passes, it will be signed by the mayor, city manager and union president to set benefits and pay scales for over 200 firefighters. 12 News Now

- ➤ Victor Hernandez is finishing Hardwired Strength, a new Olympic weightlifting gym at 1009 Orange Ave that aims to build a competitive community. The gym began stocking equipment in April and will host a pop-up market on Sept.6th as it officially opens—shared with Studio Venus. Beaumont Enterprise
- ➤ Lamar University football team started preseason camp at Provost Umphrey Stadium in Beaumont with coach Pete Rossomando setting a high tone on Day 1 of 21 scheduled practices; the team will prepare for its Aug. 30 season opener at North Texas — aiming for a conference championship run.
