- ➤ Beaumont Pets Alive is helping pets find adoptive homes as local shelters face rising summer intakes while providing space, veterinary care, and transportation to ease overcrowding across Southeast Texas—volunteers are also needed to join these efforts. The nonprofit, based in Winnie, works with shelters and PetSmart locations in nearby cities to reduce euthanasia rates. 12 News Now

- ➤ An Odessa worker died in an industrial accident at Golden Pass LNG in Sabine Pass around 3:30 p.m. Sunday & law enforcement orders an autopsy while the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office investigates the incident and contacts his family. Beaumont Enterprise

- ➤ A Port Arthur man pleaded guilty to charges from a December 28 hit-and-run that killed one person and seriously injured another—he could face up to 10 years probation and a $1,000 fine under a plea agreement—after striking a bicyclist and a pedestrian before fleeing the scene. 12 News Now
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Art Museum of Southeast Texas will host Family Arts Day on August 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. as a free back-to-school event featuring the 'Don't Mess with Texas, Mess with Art!' theme that invites children to create art from recycled materials and enjoy live performances by Gator Country at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. – raffle prizes, complimentary treats, and a concession stand will add extra fun –. - ➤ Southeast Texas schools will enforce new state rules that ban cell phone use in classrooms and require storing devices during school hours—Beaumont ISD will use Yondr pouches to keep phones secure while classes are in session. The guidelines also allow schools to post donated Ten Commandments if they meet state criteria. 12 News Now

- ➤ Charlie Gandy, a fifth-generation Texan, has proposed a 1,550-mile multiuse trail that will run from Toledo Bend to El Paso through 21 state parks and Big Bend National Park. He will begin a three-month journey on January 1 to demonstrate the route’s viability — the trail will offer hikers, bikers and equestrians a scenic way to experience rugged Texas. 12 News Now
