CRIME NEWS

  • Beaumont police and the homicide victim’s mother said they are asking for information in the case where Antonio Keon Wilson was fatally shot at about 6:40 p.m. on August 6, 2020, on the 5900 block of Bedford Drive off Highway 105—investigators expect more arrests.  KFDM
  • Beaumont man Marcus Domond Austin was sentenced to 35 years in prison on Tuesday by Judge Raquel West for violently assaulting his girlfriend on Aug 26 by striking her with a liquor bottle, which caused a skull fracture and broken femur— her minor child witnessed the attack and alerted family who called police.  Beaumont Enterprise

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Beaumont city council members voted unanimously on Tuesday to ban game rooms and gaming machines starting Nov. 3. Local business owners raised concerns over legal and economic impacts, and city staff said the ordinance aims to protect community character and quality of life—officials expect the change to affect future operations.  Beaumont Enterprise
  • City council on August 6 approved a 2% hotel tax in Beaumont to support a plan that will convert the Civic Center at 555 Main (the former AT&T Building) into a convention center and add a new downtown hotel; the proposals will be voted on in the November bond.  KFDM
  • Beaumont councilman Cory Crenshaw warned that delayed TX-DOT construction near Saint Anne Catholic School will worsen traffic on Calder Avenue when classes resume Friday. The project, originally scheduled to finish by August or September (now pushed to mid to late October), has led to increasing worker activity after residents voiced concerns on social media.  KFDM
