  • Today at 8 a.m. a coalition of local organizations will host a Back to School Bash at the Sterling Pruitt Activity Center to give away 800 bags of personal care items—like toothbrushes and socks—to help families manage rising supply costs.  12 News Now
  • Service Food Store in Charlton Pollard has been a community lifeline for 117 years under 71-year-old owner Johnny Montalbano—he now faces an uncertain future as he battles health issues while his 12 children do not plan to take over the business.  FOX 4 Beaumont
  • Gary Porter, who served 47.5 years in law enforcement and fought cancer, was honored at a funeral service held last Friday at First Baptist Church in Nederland. He retired on May 31 and was remembered as a 'cop's cop' by family and police officials (including former and current chiefs) as city offices lowered flags to half-staff in his memory.  KFDM

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The 83-year-old woman and 57-year-old man were rescued Friday near Sabine Pass after their boat capsized when deputies recovered the vessel, confirmed no injuries, and towed it to a boat ramp.  KFDM

CRIME NEWS

  • Beaumont police and city officials are stepping up efforts to crack down on large, late-night parking lot gatherings at West Park Shopping Plaza on Phelan Boulevard after reports of loud music, drinking & violent incidents including shootings and stabbings as officers will increase patrols at 9 p.m. and issue formal trespass warnings after linking the plaza's security cameras into the Real-Time Crime Center.  12 News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Lutcher Theater for the Performing Arts in Orange will begin selling single tickets at 6 a.m. Monday, August 11 for its 46th season featuring Broadway touring productions such as The Addams Family, Tina: The Tina Turner Musical, and Mrs. Doubtfire — each offering family-friendly, educational entertainment — with season ticket packages available online, by phone, or in person at the box office.  12 News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Beaumont City Councilman Joey Hilliard has launched a safety initiative at Colonnade Shopping Center to address complaints of nighttime parking lot violence and harassment—he partnered with the Beaumont Police Department and Albany's Comier to install 24-hour camera surveillance and boost on-site staffing. He said the plan fulfills his campaign promise to keep families safe while visiting local businesses.  KFDM
