- ➤ Harvey Zernial, CEO of the Southeast Texas Food Bank, said the agency felt the impact of federal SNAP cuts after a law signed on July 4 reduced funding—resulting in the loss of nearly 1 million pounds of donated food, the SNAP Education program, and $125,000 in administrative funds. He estimated the changes cost the food bank $700,000 this year and said local community groups are expected to help offset rising expenses for payroll and food purchasing. Beaumont Enterprise

- ➤ Tom Flanagan said he sold the 122-year-old Gilbert Building—damaged by fire in 2024—to businessmen Chris Richardson and Rob Fuselier, who will restore it for new office and retail space in downtown Beaumont. KFDM

- ➤ The Beaumont Police Department honored Officer Sheena Dae Yarbrough-Powell, who died on August 9 when a teen driving at more than twice the legal limit crashed head-on into her police SUV—leaving her partner seriously injured; Luis Torres was convicted of intoxication manslaughter and sentenced to 20 years in prison.
