CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 53-year-old Beaumont man, Larry Fitzgerald Williams, was indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury for capital murder after allegedly fatally shooting 51-year-old Brian Keith Lewis while he mowed his lawn on June 21 in the 1900 block of Delaware Street—Williams remains in jail on a $10,100,000 bond. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Save Our Children has partnered with VIP Style at Parkdale Mall to offer affordable school uniforms and supplies for students getting ready for the new school year. The nonprofit says the program will lower costs on items such as clear backpacks, bows and belts — easing the financial burden on families. KFDM
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Beaumont leaders will hold a news conference tomorrow in City Hall’s first-floor conference room after the council meets to decide which bond propositions go on the November ballot. Officials will answer public questions about the projects and priorities included on the ballot. Beaumont Enterprise
- ➤ On August 2, local residents in Rogers Park gathered to protest Governor Abbott's redistricting plan by holding signs that demanded fair maps and warned that the new boundaries could silence minority voices and hurt local jobs. Local leaders like Representative Manuel and former Representative Lampson said the changes might shift political power and prompt more special sessions—continuing the fight for fair representation in Texas.
