COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Riverfront Park in downtown Beaumont reopened after a multi-million dollar renovation that repaired damage from Hurricane Harvey eight years ago. City officials plan further upgrades—such as a new amphitheater and splash pads—if voters approve a bond issue on November 4.  KFDM

CRIME NEWS

  • Two more suspects have surrendered to face felony charges in the 'Ghost Deer' case involving illegal deer smuggling and falsified wildlife records—raising the total to 24 people with about 1,400 charges across 11 counties.  Beaumont Enterprise

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Tekoa Charter School got an F rating under the new TEA rules—school officials say mismatched lessons and test changes led to the drop. The school will use the TEA-recommended Bluebonnet curriculum, teacher training, and family academic nights to boost student performance.  KFDM
  • Beaumont ISD faces a potential state takeover after seven campuses received failing grades for the 2024 to 2025 school year from the Texas Education Agency. The district, which regained local control in 2020 after a state takeover in 2014, must improve performance soon to avoid further state intervention—underperformance at multiple campuses could trigger stricter measures.  12 News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Wallace 'Butch' Wilson was named General Manager of Drainage District 6 and will start his new role Monday, August 18th, overseeing drainage projects in northern Jefferson County—an area that covers nearly half the size of Rhode Island. He brings over 40 years of experience from both public and private sectors to lead the district's operations.  KFDM

SPORTS NEWS

  • During a preseason scrimmage, the Silsbee Tigers visited Larry Ward Stadium to test their defense against the Bridge City Cardinals as they prepared for the high school season; coach Randy Smith said his team relied on its strong front seven. Bridge City, which finished last season with an 8-3 record under coach Josh Smalley, will start on August 29 while Silsbee will hit the road against the Vidor Pirates—building anticipation ahead of Friday night lights.  12 News Now
