CRIME NEWS

  • The Chambers County Sheriff’s Office is searching for 48-year-old Samuel Sanford—described as a dangerous felon with five active warrants for crimes including unlawful firearm possession, assault on a peace officer and evasion of arrest—who swam across the Trinity’s Anahuac Channel near Bolivar Avenue; anyone who sees him should call 9-1-1 immediately.  FOX 4 Beaumont
  • Terry Rose rejected a 40-year plea deal for the killing of Kimberly Langwell and his trial jury selection will begin December 8—he was declared competent to stand trial after an evaluation and faces up to life in prison if convicted.  Beaumont Enterprise

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Lamar University and the Texas General Land Office tested water on Aug. 15 and found too many Enterococcus bacteria at McFaddin National Wildlife Refuge 3 so the beach advisory there remains in effect—advisories for Sea Rim Beach Middle and Camp have been lifted and further advisories will be issued as tests continue.  12 News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Southeast Texas DPS has introduced new patrol vehicles (slick-top ghost-letter designs) that blend into traffic to help troopers spot dangerous drivers and improve road safety.  KFDM
  • Local law enforcement leaders, including Sheriff Stephens, said that Senate Bill 5—aimed at banning consumable THC products—will lead to more arrests and strain on county jails. The bill passed the Senate earlier this month but now remains stalled in the House as lawmakers debate testing backlogs and enforcement challenges.  Beaumont Enterprise

HEALTH NEWS

  • Beaumont Public Health released restaurant inspection reports showing that most eateries inspected between July 28 and August 9 earned A scores while some received B grades for issues like missing thermometers—violations that must be corrected within 10 days. The reports also detailed problems such as buildup in equipment and expired food, highlighting a need for stronger daily food safety practices.  Beaumont Enterprise
